Start with the construction of new classrooms
With the amount of 1,600 (160,000 KSH), we are now able to begin the construction of four new classrooms. The Ministry of Education in Nairobi requires schools to have permanent buildings that are safe and weather-resistant. A week ago, a tragedy occurred in Nairobi when a private school collapsed, resulting in the loss of seven students' lives. Following this incident, the government has already closed over 140 schools due to insufficient safety and infrastructure. Here you can read more details. Additionally, the government has published an informational letter for all schools. You can download and read it further down. It contains information for private schools that do not meet the government's requirements. Therefore, it is very important for us to start the construction of the new buildings as soon as possible. If we do not meet the requirements, our school could be closed.
Two weeks ago, we started the construction work. First, we had to level the ground because our school is located on a hill. This took longer than expected and was correspondingly expensive. However, we are very satisfied with the progress so far. The rooms will measure 4.5 m x 5.5 m.
Construction work | Expenses |
---|---|
Foundation | CHF 740.- |
government fees | CHF 40.- |
2x Lastwagen Ballast | CHF 210.- |
2x truckloads of sand | CHF 190.- |
Mixing costs | CHF 130.- |
1000 blocks | CHF 470.- |
Water for mixing | CHF 20.- |
Total | CHF 1’800.- |
As you can see, the individual costs are very high. To complete the construction work, we need at least 1’500’000 KSH (CHF 15’000.-). Without this amount, we are unable to complete the rooms. For this reason, we are very dependent on your support and your donation.
Once again, we would like to thank everyone who, through their donations, gives us the opportunity to make a difference. A special thanks goes to a pastor and his family from the USA!
